You may want to put the radio in some kind of box when
complete. You can use these bolts to secure the variable
capacitor to a thin panel. Four washers are also provided which
might be needed to pack out a very thin panel to avoid the bolts
going in too far and damaging the vanes of the variable
capacitor.
Pan head refers to the cylindrical but rounded shape of the
screw head. It's mildly interesting to note that the 4mm
length refers only to the length of the threaded part. The whole
screw including the head measures 5.3mm. You might call them
bolts. Mechanical engineers will usually refer to them more
correctly as machine screws. M2.5 refers to the metric diameter
of the threaded part, that being approximately 2.5mm depending
on exactly how you measure or define it. The historic and ISO
(International Standards Organisation) definitions of screw
types and thread sizes can get highly complex in the detail if
you really want to go into it.
