single transistor loud crystal set cheat modification.

J1 is a standard, single AA battery holder.
It provides the 1.5 Volts to power the single transistor modification to the crystal set.  The modification works remarkably well down to less than 1 Volt, so you can use a battery that you might otherwise have thrown away, or a fresh alkaline type should last for more than a year in continuous use.  At 1.5V, the current drain is approximately 0.2mA (0.2 milliamps) = 200uA (200 microamps).

I did try using just sellotape to connect the wires to the battery.  Don't even try it.  It never works.  Remember, batteries near the end of their life turn into a nasty green furry mess if you forget about them.

Don't use a NiMh or NiCd rechargeable battery for the following reasons:

a)  There's no point, because the current drain is so low.
b)  If you accidentally short circuit a rechargeable battery by touching the red and black wires together, the high current produced will melt the battery holder.

Avoid touching the red and black wires together, even with any ordinary non-rechargeable battery.  It will still get hot.
