This is a 35mm outer diameter control knob which is fixed onto the shaft of the variable capacitor using the screw in the side. The screw is set quite low down in the knob, so it will fix onto the relatively short shaft available on the variable capacitor. The picture of the rear of the knob shows a circular recess in the plastic. The recess allows the knob to clear the two short screws when those are used to fit the variable capacitor into a thin-walled plastic case.
